The pelvic floor is a hammock of muscles, tendons and ligaments that support the pelvic organs such as the bladder and uterus. Pelvic Health Physiotherapy specifically focuses on improving dysfunction of pelvic floor muscles, joints, connective tissues, and nerves, which have important roles in bladder/bowel health, sexual function and core strength. Women can experience pelvic floor dysfunction due to childbirth trauma and menopausal hormone changes. Pelvic floor dysfunction also occurs in men, often due to prostate conditions. Like any other area in the body, some of the muscles may be tight and need to soften and lengthen, and others may be weak and require strengthening.

You would benefit from Movement's Pelvic Health Services if you experience any of the following:
> Urinary Incontinence
> Constipation
> Pregnancy and Postpartum
> Uterine or Bladder Prolapse

If you have been experiencing any pelvic health issues or have questions about how Pelvic Health Physiotherapy can benefit you, we encourage you to schedule an appointment or reach out to our team at 905 882 3070.

Specializations Desk-work injuries Orthopaedic physio Medical Acupuncture Provider

Experience Registered Physiotherapist Medical Acupuncture Provider Master of Science in Physical Therapy (Queen’s University) Bachelors of Science - specialization in Kinesiology and Exercise Science (York University) Certificate in Sports Administration (York University)

Practice Style

Mitchell’s focus is managing and treating the “desk jockeys”. This population constantly challenges their bodies behind a desk or computer for over 40 hours a week (more than any athlete trains at the gym); in addition to staying active at the gym or playing their favourite recreational sports.

Mitchell focuses on priming their bodies to sustain long periods in sitting positions, and optimizes postural mechanics to help them transition from desk work to competitive play without the risk of sprains or strains. Given his passion for integrative practice, Mitchell’s goal is to understand how the site of pain is impacted by the entire body, rather than pinpointing a specific area of weakness. Within this perspective, he strives to optimize movement to help attain relief on a whole-body level and fulfill performance goals using activity-specific strengthening exercises, acupuncture and dry needling, and manual therapy techniques.

He couples these techniques with training in Advanced Manual Therapy techniques, Functional Stability courses, soft tissue release, and Concussion training. Mitchell is also the founder and creator of The Movement Centre – a website to help empower people to better manage and treat their injuries and achieve their functional goals. This platform provides access to movement assessment videos, targeted exercises, as well as specialized video series which aid in empowering people to take their health and injury prevention in their own hands.

Unique Facts

With an interest in on-field sports coverage Mitchell also had the unique opportunity to take part in the 2015 Pan Am Games (as a member of the medical team) where he provided on-field injury management services to golf, softball, table tennis, and baseball athletes.

Jesse specializes in managing acute and chronic pain stemming from sports injuries as well as the aches brought on by long hours of sedentary desk work. He believes in providing his patients with the independence, confidence, and ownership in their recovery. Jesse’s background in strength and conditioning allows him to tailor his treatments to the unique needs of each individual patient. He uses a movement-based examination to figure out what might be contributing to the pain and from there may elect to incorporate hands-on manual therapy, dry needling, and/or a specific exercise routine to get his patient moving and feeling better as quickly as possible. A cornerstone of Jesse’s practice is education: he believes that each patient should leave their assessment with a clear understanding of what’s wrong and how they might fix it.

Unique Facts

Jesse was a competitive basketball player who represented Team Canada at the 2005 Pan-American Maccabi Games in Santiago, Chile. He now enjoys staying active by weight training, playing golf and volleyball, and can also be found playing with his dog, Charlie, any chance he gets. Aside from clinical practice, Jesse is also a health and wellness contributor to Huffington Post Canada. You can view his Huff Post page here.
